This is the traditional Chinese Chess in which your aim is to capture the general of the opponent. You and your opponent should take turns to move your pieces, unlike Chess the pieces are put on the intersection of the lines, rather than on the squares. The general moves one step horizontally or vertically, and can only move within the nine places in the palace area. A special move of the general is that when the two generals are facing each other without any pieces in between, then the general can "fly" and capture the opponent general, winning the game. In practice this rule means that no one can move in such a way that the two generals will be facing each other with no pieces in between. The advisor moves diagonally along the diagonal lines in the palace area. The elephant moves diagonally for two spaces and cannot cross the river in the middle of the playing area.
